Learn to Fight

14 Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.

15 He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

16 So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.

[Genesis 14:14-16]

God gave Abraham incredible strength. At the time he undertook the rescue mission in Operation save Lot, he might have been in his 80s or even 90s. Yet, he was still strong enough to go to battle.

The other thing is that, Abraham trained all the males in his household for battle. He also had a battle strategy which he deployed successfully. He knew when to attack the enemy and how to utilize just 318 men against the mighty kings that captured Lot and the rest of Sodom and Gomorrah among others.

People of God, we must learn to fight. We’re at war with at least two things constantly- the flesh and demonic entities (principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.)- Ephesians 6:12.

There are times you have to say no and just stand your ground based on your conviction. That’s a fight. Some parents are over pampering their children in the name of love. It’s a costly mistake. Ask yourself whether they can survive this hostile life should God call you home today. If the answer is in the negative, you may have to re-examine your methods.

King Solomon was a man of peace. Yet, he had a mighty army and an arsenal in the forest of Lebanon. He also had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horses (1 Kings 4:26). People believe that was why no king dared to attack him.

David says: “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1). The Lord pour on us His immeasurable strength from on high to fight and win every battle that comes our way. Amen
