6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.
7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
[Genesis 12:6&7]
In verse 5, we’re told Abram (Abraham) successfully got into Canaan, the land God said He would show Abraham. However, the land wasn’t “bona vacantia” a vacant, ownerless land. The Canaanites were already in the land. These were giants, people of huge stature. Remember Goliath? Yet, God promised Abraham that He would give that same land to Abraham and his descendants.
Two quick lessons I’ll like us to learn here are these:
🌲 God’s promises always come to pass, once we don’t give up. After more than 400 years, God gave the land God Himself described as flowing with milk and honey to the descendants of Abraham under the leadership of Joshua. God says “And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:17, ES)
As Prophet Habakkuk says, though the vision tarries, it shall come to pass, wait for it (Habbakuk 2:3). So, don’t give up on what God has put your heart. Neither should you throw away His promises for your life. They’ll all surely come to pass.
🌲 Secondly, don’t be scared because others have gone ahead in that same field. For instance, when Eric Yuan, founder of “Zoom Video Communications” started his thing, people said he will not succeed because “Skype” and others have already taken over the market. Today, see what Zoom has become. I listened to a news item the other day that said about 40 million people use Skype per month. Zoom is doing 300 million people per day, because of the times we’re living in. The founder has become a billionaire instantly. His net worth is US$ 18.2 billion, according to Forbes (December 1, 2020)
Renowned lawyers have already gone ahead of you. Will you also ever become a household name? Yes! So also is the case, whether you want to own a restaurant, business of all kinds, whether you want to become a Pastor, Surveyor, Banker, Medical Doctor and Academic, a Judge, a Writer etc. Giants are already in the land you’ve entered or about to enter. However, once God has spoken, it shall come to pass. He has a place for you.
May the Lord cause His good Word to be fulfilled in our lives in the Name of Jesus. Amen
