7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.
[Genesis 12:7&8]
Abraham had a habit of building an altar and calling on the Name of Lord wherever he went. The place of prayer in our lives can’t be overemphasized. We receive forgiveness of sins and obtain grace, mercy and favour when we pray. Prayer brings protection and stays the hand of the enemy. In addition, prayer destroys the plans of the enemy and thwarts his efforts. Prayer builds our faith in God and causes the miraculous to happen in our lives. Moreover, prayer changes us and causes us to see things from God’s point of view. Furthermore, prayer strengthens us to go through crises without crumbling. These are just a few benefits of prayer. We need to pray in advance and store energy before crises occur; otherwise, we begin to pray panic prayers instead of praying in faith.
Prayer is food for our spirit, just as the body needs physical food. Some people’s spirit is suffering from malnutrition because their spirit is not fed properly. Unfortunately, because we don’t see our spirit, we’re not conscious of its growth and development that much. All the attention is on the body, which dies and decays, while the spirit returns to its Creator.
The late Indian Prophet, D. G. S. Dhinakaran said sometimes, God opened his eyes to see people’s spirit. He’d see a mature person, whose spirit looks as if it’s say, four years old because the person doesn’t pray. Then he’d see a young person whose spirit is so developed and mature because the person prayed a lot.
We need to be people of prayer because the days are evil. Now that the whole world is on the edge, we need to pray as never before. The Lord pour on us the spirit of grace and supplication. May we revive in our prayer lives once again. Amen
